Believe: Stewardship

Key Idea:
I believe everything I am and everything I own belong to God.

The earth is the LORD’S, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas
and established it on the waters.
Psalm 24:1-2

Yesterday as I stood in the checkout line at the grocery store, I realized I forgot my reusable bags. I’m embarrassed to admit I didn’t take the time to get out of line to get them from my trunk. I was in a hurry. The sad truth is I forget them often.

Today I read that the Pacific Ocean continues to be a dumping ground for plastics, sewage, Chemical waste, radioactive waste, and other toxins.

A poll suggests atheists and agnostics are far ahead of Christians in championing environmental preservation. We Christians may have different solutions to the problem, but ignoring the charge we have been given by God is wrong.

The earth belongs to the Designer, Creator, and Sustainer of life, and he has entrusted this planet to our care (Genesis 2:15). As Christians we should be leading this effort. We can begin by each doing our part—me first.

Tomorrow I commit to go back out to my car and get my bags, even if I’m in a hurry. What will you be doing?
